It is the recognition of separated, distinct, and self-evident economies in biblical history that are established through the biblical covenants, and which all form part of the unifying theme of the Bible: The Kingdom.
 +
+I order to learn about all of this, I want to put together an introductory study of the Bible and its structure as a unified whole. That means I want to study out a "biblical theology," like Walter Kaiser described:
 +
+>Biblical theology is the quest for the big picture or the theological wholeness and the overview that brings out the unity, the plan, the cohesiveness, and the purpose of God as that plan moves through the course of history.
 +
+But unlike so many of the "scholarly" biblical theologies out there, I want a "biblical" biblical theology--a biblical theology based on the Bible.
 +
+And that's why I started with the first study below: **//What is the Bible...?//**

+===== What is the Bible? =====
 +
+What is the Bible's "formal character," it's "nature"? What //__**is**__// it? Is it a religious book? Is it a history book? Is it a self-help book ("chicken soup for your soul")? Is it a love letter? Is it a book of Jewish myths and maxims?

 +
+A corpus is a large collection of writings of a specific kind or on a specific subject.
+  * The Bible is a collection of writings of a specific kind (covenantal) and on a specific subject (covenants; specifically, covenants between God and His moral creatures).
+  * The Bible is a covenant corpus; it is a body, a collection of covenants.
+  * This is the nature of the Bible: covenant. This is the formal character of the Bible: covenant.
 +
+In this study we answer the question (What is the Bible?) by drawing attention to two specific aspects of Scripture:
 +  - The Two Testaments
+  - The Eight Major Covenants

+==== The Bible is an Authoritative Covenant Corpus ====

 +
+The Bible, because of its nature and formal character as a divine covenant corpus, is authoritative. It is God's final authority over man, given to change man's conduct.
+  - The Bible is authoritative in its origin: The words of Scripture are inspired by God.
+  - The Bible is authoritative in its purpose: God inspired Scripture to govern us.
 +
+Scripture, as a covenant corpus, confronts us with God's absolute and final authority over us and our lives as the subjects living in the Kingdom He created.
